Sally has spent much of her life learning what leadership looks like when the plan inevitably goes wrong.
She's led teams across oceans, through some fairly unforgiving conditions, and into situations where there is no easy exit. Sally's also spent years leading organisations, volunteers and partnerships where the challenges are less dramatic, but no less complex.
The environments may be different, but the fundamentals aren't.
Sally's leadership experience started with adventure
She's led two Atlantic rowing expeditions, including the world-record-breaking row she completed with her mother, as well as subsequent expeditions and adventures where planning, decision-making, teamwork and resilience weren't theoretical concepts.
They were the things that kept them alive and moving forward when they were exhausted, conditions were changing, and the consequences of getting it wrong mattered.
Today, Sally is the CEO of The Active Pregnancy Foundation, a national charity working to make physical activity a normal and supported part of pregnancy and life after birth. It's a very different kind of expedition, but the same principles apply.
The charity's vision is to create a society where women are empowered to be physically active throughout their childbearing years in a way that works for them.
As a fledgling organisation, Sally and her team build partnerships and navigate the competing demands that come with trying to change systems, influence policy and make a difference at scale.
In the autumn of 2025 they secured a £250k funding grant and became a Strategic Partner with Sport England, a game-changing moment for The APF, solidify their status as the 'go to' organisation for pregnant and postnatal women and the fitness and healthcare professionals that support them.
Sally is also Deputy Chief Guide of Girlguiding UK, a five year voluntary role that gives her a very different perspective on leadership.
Girlguiding is a huge, diverse organisation powered by volunteers, with girls and young women at its heart.
As a member of the Chief Guide Team, her role is not just ambassadorial, she's also a Trustee and Director of The Guide Association Trading Service Ltd (the trading arm of the organisation).
It's hugely rewarding opportunity to represent the organisation, support its leadership and champion its purpose.
